Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Stefan Kieserman has over two decades of experience in diagnosing and treating disorders of the Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT), and nasal cosmetic surgery. In his New York-based office, Stefan Kieserman, MD, performs snoring surgery, allergy testing, and nasal polyps removal.

Nasal polyps are non-cancerous and painless growths that develop on the lining tissues or mucosa of a person’s nose. While these growths are painless, they can sometimes swell and become irritated, causing blockages in the nasal passages and sinuses.

Polyps are usually associated with various triggers such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and recurring sinus infections. However, some people do develop polyps having no previous nasal disorders. While small polyps have little or no symptoms, larger polyps may cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, headaches, nosebleeds, snoring, and loss of smell.

Nasal polyps are diagnosed through various methods such as endoscopy, MRI, and CT scans. Then, a physician or ENT specialist will prescribe medication and nasal steroids for smaller polyps to help reduce inflammation and blockage.

However, if these remedies offer no relief, surgery may be performed to remove the polyps. The type of surgery usually depends on the size of the polyps.
